In this activity/assignment you are going to prove to me that you understand the metric system. Pages 44-48 of your book will be a good resource to consider for this assignment. Click Here to see your grading rubric.
You will spend two days in the library designing a presentation that will only be presented to me. It can be presented on a power point, prezi, pictures you draw, words your write, or verbally. Yes, you could explain everything to me but, what you intend to tell me needs to be written down. It should only be 1-3 minutes and contain the following in this specific order: Slide/explanation 1. What is the difference between the metric system (SI) and the English System of measurement. Please give 3 examples of Measurements in both the Metric and English Systems and examples of everyday things that would be measured by these units. For example: Inches are used in the English(Standard) system and a pencil would be an example of something you'd measure in Inches. Each measurement must be in different units. Slide/explanation 2. This section will be about converting within the Metric System. Explain why the Metric System is considered easier to convert with in. How is it different then the English System. Please create and share a way for you to remember the Metric prefixes(Not one that we have done yet) So you can't mention Kangaroos or King Holmes:). Please provide 5 examples of conversions within the Metric System that you have done on your own. These can't be examples from anything we have done in class. Research and explain how the Computer Industry uses Metric Prefixes with examples. Slide/explanation 3. In this section you will show pictures or give examples of things measured in the following Metric Units: #1. A kilometer (Km) #2. A Kilogram (Kg) #3. A millimeter(mm) #4. Milliliter(ml) #5. Centimeter(cm) #6. Milligram(mg) Slide/explanation 4. “Crickets Chirping” You might want to know the temperature, but a thermometer is nowhere to be found. You hear crickets chirping around you. Why not let them tell you the temperature? To interpret what the chirps mean, count the number of chirps in one minute, then use the formula T=5+(n/8), where T is the temperature in degrees Celsius and n is the number of chirps made by the crickets in one minute. Assume that you hear 13 chirps in a minute. Use the the formula above to get the temperature in Celsius and then use the appropriate conversion below to get it in Fahrenheit. Be ready to tell me what would happen to the temperature if you heard more or less chirps. °F to °C Subtract 32, then multiply by 5, then divide by 9° C to °F Multiply by 9, then divide by 5, then add 32 Important: You must be able to save this presentation on one of the following: Flash Drive, Google Drive, Email, Prezi, or the Server. You can work on this at home if you'd like. If you finish early, you may work on the Science World or other homework. I will begin the Individual Conferences on Tuesday and finish them up on Wednesday. If you are in my V.I.P I will look at your presentation in my V.I.P. Please work with your egg teams. Click on this Link and follow the examples of calculating Velocity. Once you've completely read through the examples, complete the 10 practice problems on a sheet of paper. This paper will be turned in on Friday. If you finish early make sure your egg report is up to date and ready to be tested Tomorrow! You may not do anything additional to your egg capsule. Don't forget to wear a jacket.
